What are some creative ways to use an Ottoman?

Unconventional Use: Reading Nook Coffee Table Ottomans

When people talk about multifunction ottomans, they also refer to using ottomans at par with a coffee table or a side table. These are slightly bigger ottomans that double up as countertops for mugs of coffee and your favourite books or Kindle. A couple of such ottomans in a corner of the room suggest that this is your reading zone that is meant to stash your books only and ensure you have all the ready supplies ready every time you want to sit down and read without worrying about the world. Combined with a snug rug and some cushions, the low-stance ottoman helps to create a personal reading nook in bigger living rooms. Here, the ottoman is often referred to as a Coffee Table Ottoman, but it shouldn’t be confused with a regular coffee table.

Alternative Use: Ottomans that Party – the Cocktail Ottoman

For homes that often host guests, side tables might often fall short as they need to set up additional spots for snacks and drinks. Enter the Cocktail Ottoman that is not shy of mimicking the role of a good coffee table and doing a lot more than the centrepiece table in the living room. Offering a solid tabletop, such ottomans offer the leverage to arrange snacks or drinks and the ease of repeatedly moving around the ottoman without much effort. Put up some paper napkins and coasters along with the tray of snacks, and your temporary snacking setup is done, atop the ottoman!

Some Other Uses: Emerging Ottoman Choices

It is difficult to categorize and define and standardise the niche of ottoman furniture as new ottoman designs continue to emerge. Recently, some ottomans with pillow-like tops have emerged and they obviously cannot double up as small tables and are meant to be used like luxuriously padded stools only. These are entirely accent pieces [decorative ottomans] and are meant to complete the look or the décor theme of a room. Further, long ottomans with a bench-type dimension [ottoman benches] have emerged that are usually rectangular or square and play the role of a seating option and a more-than-generous spacious storage area, usable even as a blanket box that can often look bulky and industrious, upsetting the room’s decor.

Ottomans are also available with different types of legs, ranging from floor-kissing wooden legs to sleeker, longer legs. Other creative designs include ottomans with a gliding mechanism, meant to function as a gliding footrest.
